These veins may look like a crack but they are not cracks. These are veins and originated during the time the Shungite was formed in the Earth. *Shungite is a soft stone and is 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs hardness scale. As a result of this softness, you may find that the Shungite may leave a dark residue on your hands when handling it. This is very normal beacuse it is a soft stone. After you receive your Shungite, you may want to run it under water to help get rid of this residual dust. Dry it gently with a towel. This picture is an representation of the type and quality of the gemstone you will be receiving. As you know, there are slight variations due to the natural character of this product.
